Distract / Attend
Logan Art Gallery, Queensland, 2024Distract / Attend is a body of work by artist Jacqueline Scotcher. The exhibition explores the tension between modern digital distraction and the mindful practice of paying attention to the landscape around us. I collaborated with Jacqueline to translate these conceptual themes into the digital realm, co-creating the two digital projection and mixed-media works featured below.
Thought Confetti
Jacqueline Scotcher 2024, Mixed media mapped with digital elementsThought Confetti explores the sensory overload of contemporary digital life—specifically how our focus is constantly hijacked by notifications, clickbait, and shifting opinions. In this collaborative installation, digital elements are precision-mapped onto a physical, mixed-media canvas. The resulting interplay between tactile surfaces and dynamic, moving light mimics the "alluring next thing" competing for our dopamine and pulling us away from the physical world.
My role: I was responsible for the technical and creative execution of the digital mapping, ensuring the projected elements interacted seamlessly with the physical installation to create an immersive, multi-layered experience
Threshold
Dane & Jacqueline Scotcher 2024, digital projection, 2 min loop
2024 Wollumbin Art Award FinalistWe find that developing a personal relationship with the surrounding environment and its natural rhythms is at the threshold of deeper inner knowing. Connecting with place is a portal into understanding self. When we deepen bodily connections with nature, greater respect and empathy is emanated for self and then out into the wider world. At a time where lives are increasingly online and disconnected from the local, we see this connection as vital. As a digital projection loop, Threshold stands at the intersection of these two states, using technology to visually contemplate our relationship with the natural world.
My role: I collaborated with Jacqueline to bring this conceptual framework to life.
